Contractor was inspired to pursue acting seriously at age of 16 following almost 10 years dancing. After graduating high school, she received a full-time grant to attend at the University of Toronto, where she completed a masters degree in the field of theatre, and a double major in sociology and psychology. Contractor got her first part after a year of university. She received rave reviews for her performances on the stage in 92 productions. the play was voted the production of the year by Canadian critics in 2002. She was invited to join Stratford's conservatory. This is a course that allows only four males and eight women are able to take a 20 weeks crash program in classical theatre. Contractor's participation in the next play-season was confirmed and she received the role in Hermia from A Midsummer Night's Dream.
